Hi there!
My name is Julie Holt and I am an athletic trainer in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I completed my undergrad at the University of New Mexico in Athletic Training in the fall of 2016 and jumped right into my master's at USA. I currently work at a physical therapy clinic here in Albuquerque for most of the year and then in the summer I work with a local PDL soccer team, The Albuquerque Sol F.C., for their 3 month season and I love it! I have lived in New Mexico for most of my life and experienced many other states and countries. I really do love New Mexico because of the culture. You don't get to experience different types of cultures in one state as you do here in NM. If I were to pick one other city that I enjoy it would be home hometown of Clearwater, FL (where I was born). I miss the beaches from time to time and the rain. I only have mountains and a hot climate. If I were to pick one positive characteristic about myself is that I am SUPER organized which helps me control my crazy work schedules and balancing school and my home life as well. I really hope to gain a better understand about the female self. I do currently work with male athletes but as a female athlete myself I would like to gain knowledge to help my female athletes that I see in the clinic. I look forward to working with all of you and growing our knowledge together!!

Hi Julie! What a great experience it must be working with your PDL soccer team! Are you yourself a soccer player? My husband and I are living in Europe at the moment, and its truly incredible the energy and excitement that soccer culture generates over here! EVERYONE was so thrilled about The World Cup, something that we hadn't encountered on such a level when in the States. I'm looking forward to learning from your knowledge and background! Enjoy those ABQ sunsets, the south west paints some good ones!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie! It's great to see another AT in this group :) I actually have a lot of family members from Albuquerque, and I've been there a time or two! There's nothing better than NM Mexican food and Hatch Chiles! It sounds like you have a very busy and interesting schedule. I'm looking forward to this course with you!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie! It is nice to meet you. And I am excited to learn more about the athletic training world. I see you live in New Mexico and yes that is my neighbor state about hours. I have never been but I had a cousin who was an architect there and my parents travel there from time to time. I am excited to working an learning more of your points and view in this course as we move forward.
ReplyDeleteHey Julie! Glad to have another AT in the class that too has worked with semi-professional soccer team before. I am looking forward to hearing what you bring to the class as an AT that also works in a PT clinic. Glad to have you in another class with me and can't wait to continue to learn alongside you.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie,
ReplyDeleteI definitely am missing FL beaches! I grew up not far from Clearwater beach- Indian Rocks Beach to be exact. A piece of my heart will always be there. New Mexico is hottt. Have you been to the white sands monument?? I have that on my list for visiting real soon. I am currently traveling through Arizona and tried all I could to stop in, but ran out of time. I live in central valley CA, and it never rains unfortunately. I have even grown accustomed to listening to rain apps to fall asleep at night. I travel to neighboring forests every chance I get to escape the heat. I am excited to gain perspective from an Athletic Trainer stand point. I am an OT. I think we will both have opportunities to shed some light. Talk soon!
Hi Julie!
ReplyDeleteNew Mexico is on our bucket list for travel! While the heat I know can be overwhelming in summer, the dry air would sure be a change from the Midwest humidity. Looking forward to our AT conversation!

Hi Julie, it's great to see a fellow New Mexican, AT, and Lobo in this class. I too am a product of the UNM ATEP (2002 graduate). I couldn't agree with you more regarding how you feel about NM. I have traveled and lived in many other places and have yet to find a place that enchants me more than the land of enchantment. I look forward to working with you this fall!

Hi Julie! It's nice to have you in the course. I've been to Albuquerque once many years ago for a conference, but I remember having a wonderful time there. It's great that you work in a PT clinic and you work with the soccer team. Do you or any of your staff members work on the psychosocial aspects of treatment? Of of my backgrounds is performance psychology (sport and exercise psychology) so I am always interested in knowing how other health providers approach the mental side of healing. I hope this course will help you learn more about yourself and how you can help your clients!
